Did chimpanzees use hammers a long time ago? Researchers believe that the chimpanzees had used stone hammers 4,300 years ago. The researchers found the hammer in the West Africa country Ivory Coast. The hammer was probably the earliest tools used by the chimpanzee. The stones found in West Africa were the size of cantaloupes. The rock was too big for a humans hand. But not too big for the larger and stronger hand of a chimpanzee. The stones also had a pattern. This pattern means that the stones were used to crack nuts. I believe that this is possible.
